Celebrating MLK Day with Spectrum Dance
January 13, 2022
BIPOC founded and BIPOC led organizations have been historically underfunded. In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day next Monday, January 17th, 10% of proceeds from all of our shops will be donated to Spectrum Dance Theater whose mission is to utilize dance as an instrument of social justice.
For nearly 40 years, Spectrum Dance Theater has brought dance and performances to the Pacific Northwest through a variety of classes, Community Engagement programs, and scholarships.
The School of Spectrum Dance Theater is committed to providing expert dance instruction to all, regardless of body types, abilities, challenges, and cultural backgrounds. Over the last two years in the pandemic, Spectrum has produced new virtual performances and films to sustain their Company Artists, maintained safe environments for students and Teaching Artists, increased their student scholarships, and provided free Community Engagement programs.
When you come in to get a scoop of your favorite local ice cream on Monday January 17th, your purchase will be supporting Spectrum in these actions, helping to make dance accessible for all and educating the community about social and racial inequities through art.
MLK Day continues to be an important day in our nation’s history to honor a great leader and acknowledge the work still to be done to eliminate systemic racism from our culture and institutions. Whether you choose to march, donate, volunteer, or learn more, we hope you devote time to furthering your own anti-racist journey this coming Monday, and every day.
