Jaelynn's Peach Cobbler!

March 20, 2025

“My Aunt Willy used to make the best peach cobbler. There was something very special about it… the tartness balanced with the sweet and the cinnamon. When we talk about her, we talk about missing her peach cobbler. The role of food in our family is how we remember and love those who have passed.”

-Jaelynn Scott

Women’s History Month Honoree Jaelynn Scott is the powerhouse Executive Director of Lavender Rights Project, which provides legal and social services to the Black intersex and gender-diverse community. We are proud to highlight Jaelynn’s incredible work and personal story by creating her ice cream flavor this month: Peach Cobbler.

Jaelynn grew up in Mississippi, and during the hot, balmy summers, her family - who had moved to other parts of the country through the Great Black Migration - would travel back to the South to reconnect with their roots. Multiple days of family festivities centered around meals would include Aunt Willy’s peach cobbler, accompanied by Jaelynn’s mother’s homemade vanilla ice cream, freshly churned on the porch the old-fashioned way and kept cold in the heat with lots of ice and rock salt.

This month’s Peach Cobbler ice cream is not only a tribute to Jaelynn’s work at Lavender Rights Project but also an ode to her mother and Aunt Willy.
