Nneka Ogwumike's Vegan Apple Puff Puff

March 5, 2026

“As most Seattleites know, Molly Moon’s has championed Paid Family Leave for a long time. That’s one of the many reasons I’m so excited to honor Seattle Storm’s own Nneka Ogwumike. As the President of the WNBA Players Association, she fought hard and won 100% fully paid maternity leave and family planning stipends for the incredible female athletes who play basketball professionally in America. Basketball has always been my favorite sport, and Nneka is one of my favorite players to watch and root for — both on the court and off the court!"

Vegan Apple Puff Puff
A first for Molly Moon’s; a non-coconut based vegan ice cream base is used to create a new vegan flavor reminiscent of apple fritters. We cook down Washington grown organic granny smith apples into a thick and rich apple compote and add it into the vegan base to create an apple and spice backdrop for the Nigerian puff puff donuts. A popular street food across West Africa, we are sourcing ours from Pass D Joloff, a favorite Nigerian restaurant of Nneka located in Pioneer Square. Puff puff is fried, golden-brown dough balls with a soft, airy and slightly chewy interior.

"This flavor brings me back to my childhood and closer to my culture. My memories of Houston made donut holes and late night Naija party puff puff are the perfect mix to transport any who indulges to my safest space: who I am."
— Nneka

In 2012, Seattle Storm's star power forward Nneka Ogwumike was selected 1st overall in the WNBA Draft by the Los Angeles Sparks. A proud first-generation Nigerian-American and Texas native, Nneka is regarded as the ultimate role model and a leading advocate for equality, opportunity, women’s empowerment, and health and wellness. She is currently serving in her third term as President of the WNBA Players’ Association (WNBPA), where she is leading the union through the current groundbreaking Collective Bargaining Agreement renegotiation.

Nneka is a 10-time WNBA All-Star, eight-time All-WNBA selection, five-time All-Defensive WNBA selection, the 2016 MVP and WNBA Champion, 2012 Rookie of the Year, and the first player in league history to win the Kim Perrot Sportsmanship Award four times (2019–2021 and 2025). A Stanford standout, she has been at the forefront of leadership, rewriting the future of women’s basketball and beyond.
