Women's History Month 2026

March 4, 2026

Since 2019, we’ve celebrated Women's History Month by recognizing women who have dedicated their work and lives to making our communities safer, more equitable, and welcoming to all.

Each year, we select four phenomenal women, and this year is no different! We're proud to present our 2026 Honorees:

  • Jennifer Ament, Artist

  • Dr. Rachel Issaka, Gastroenterologist & Clinical Researcher

  • Nneka Ogwumike, Athlete

  • Joy Shigaki, Community Leader

JENNIFER AMENT

Jen Ament is a multi-media artist working in printmaking, painting, and murals in Seattle. Through magical and illusionary motifs, much of Jen's artistic work involves exploring and coming to terms with some of the darkest parts of being human. Jen’s prints and paintings have been featured in solo and group exhibitions throughout the United States including Seattle Art Fair, Pulse Miami, and Out of Sight. She is represented by Spectrum Fine Art.

DR. RACHEL ISSAKA

Dr. Rachel Issaka spent much of her childhood in Ghana, West Africa, an experience that continues to shape her work today. A practicing gastroenterologist and researcher at Fred Hutch & UW Medicine, she is focused on helping more people get screened early to prevent cancer deaths - especially in underserved communities in Seattle and across the U.S. Dr. Issaka leads an important patient-centered cancer screening program in the Pacific Northwest and her research helps shape health policy and everyday medical care nationwide. We are so lucky and proud to have Dr. Issaka in our Seattle community!

Malva Pudding Cake
We take our classic sweet cream ice cream and fold in freshly baked pieces of traditional South African Malva pudding cake.  Malva pudding cake is a moist toffee sponge cake soaked in a rich sauce of butter, brown sugar, and cream.  We pair the cake with bright tangy swirls of homemade apricot jam, which is also found in the cake.

“After years searching for the flavors that made Malva Pudding so special, what Molly and her team created truly delivers.”  — Dr. Issaka

Vegan Apple Puff Puff
We cook down granny smith apples, organic sugar, nutmeg, and cinnamon to a rich and thick compote which flavors our coconut-free vegan base.  We then add pieces of fluffy and chewy Nigerian puff puff - handmade in the traditional way by our friends at restaurant Pass D Joloff.

"This flavor brings me back to my childhood and closer to my culture. My memories of Houston made donut holes and late night Naija party puff puff are the perfect mix to transport any who indulges to my safest space: who I am." — Nneka
