the anna banana milk fund, created to honor the memory of molly’s little sister anna, who passed away in 2009, provides fresh milk to families in need every week.
Anna Melissa Neitzel, Molly's little sister, was extraordinarily generous and just so happened to love milk. Fresh dairy products like milk, yogurt and cheese are rarely available at food banks, but since 2011, the Anna Banana Milk Fund has raised over $300,000 to provide local, organic milk from Smith Brothers Farms (the same milk we use in our shops) to hundreds of families and individuals in Seattle.
We started the Milk Fund in partnership with FamilyWorks Food Bank across the street from our original Wallingford shop, but have since expanded to build partnerships with food banks and social housing organizations in every neighborhood where we have a scoop shop. In 2018, our Anna Banana Milk Fund became an official nonprofit organization. We can now raise even more money each year to give to food banks in our neighborhoods.
We work in close partnership with FamilyWorks, Jewish Family Service, Queen Anne Food Bank, Rainier Valley Food Bank, University District Food Bank and Hopelink to support their dairy programs.
Our employees lead the way in contributing to the Anna Banana Milk Fund. Most members of our Moon Crew donate $5-25 from every paycheck to the Milk Fund. Molly Moon's matches employee giving, and then some. In 2019 our generous mooncrew donated over $14,000!
A donation of just $10 a month provides all the milk a family needs each week. We invite you to join us, whether it’s a monthly contribution or just a one-time donation, you can help make a difference in the lives of people who need a little extra help. Anna would be so proud.
